Press [play] to see the fursicle in its natural habitat
the Adventure:
The user begins the safari by calling the fursicle with their cell phones. Upon calling the user will receive a password that is composed of animal sounds such as gerrrs, wooww, barks, cries, and meaows. Once the user obtains the password through their cellphones, they go to the head that is outside the installation on the door. Staying on the phone they tell the password to the head. Head responds by sending a sound feedback and lighting the headpiece up blue. If the head likes the password, the user gets to enter. Each password spoken into the ear will be recorded using a bluetooth microphone headset. Passwords will be recorded and sent to the database to be stored where they can be resampled for the fursicle experience, or sent back as hunted information.
Prompted by the voice on the phone the user is asked if they want to MATE, KILL, or RUN with the fursicle. Desiring as they choose, the user will be guided by instructions from the voice on the phone. Each choice requires the user to touch and move in various ways with the fursicle, inventing the feedback as they move.
While the user is interacting with the fursicle corresponding sounds and projected images are texturing the experience with rich animal sights and languages.Deeper into the experience of the fursicle, the user creates a relationship with the fursicle feeling and stepping their way to mating, killing, or running.
Cameras and mics are capturing the experience of each user. THe captured media is stored and time stamped in a database which is also tied to the time of the phone call.
2.The Wilderness of Modern telecommunications, media components, and data surveillance
-the fursicle carpet: the carpet is embedded with a wireless bluetooth keyboard that has been hacked, scaled up, and remapped providing a wireless sensor input to the max patch. Each step on the furscile triggers a different wild animal sound. Input from the steps is also controlling the projected images and videos layering the space.
Components:
-camera 1: mounted onto the ceiling camera 1 is an infrared camera tracking the moving bodies in the space. Following each user the camera will map the users position to and xy plane. Sound will be paired with the xy mapping of the users live position in the space and will follow the user by sending the sound out of a specific speaker. Sound will be hunting the user based on their position in space.
camera 2: side mounted camera. Controlled by a sound threshold higher than normal, camera 2 takes pictures only if the sound threshold goes into chaos triggering a freak out". During the ³freak out² all the animals will be going crazy and the pictures and videos will be playing on all surfaces. Working as a traditional flash, the ³freak out² will be a moment in which the user will be captured in the heat of the hunt. During the freak out only, camera 2 will be taking photographs of the user and sending the photographs to the database with a time stamp.
Post-"freak-out² assembles the safari into a calm experience in which a soothing voice begins to announce directions for the users to call this number to retrieve their picture that was just taken of them. Graphics of the telephone number will also be the visual at that time from the projector.
-4 speakers: Placed in each corner playing the wild animal sounds of the fursicle
-2 computers : one is connected to the bluetooth headset + isight, and the other is connected to the blue tooth keyboard + infrared camera
-mannequin head: mounted on the exterior of the installation with a blue tooth head set embedded in the ear.
-bluetooth headset: receives and sends passwords through audio in, sends audio out feedback that the password was correct.
Software: vxml, max/msp/jitter , internet
