Dana Karwas is a designer for art, cinema, and architecture.
Her work is rooted in architecture and extends to the edges of social
systems and cultural dimensions. Dana teaches the Metaforms class and
thesis seminar at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts Interactive
Telecommunications Program (ITP). She has taught classes on
interactive media at Columbia University's Graduate School of
Architecture Planning and Preservation, at Harvestworks digital media
center in NYC, and at the LEMURPLEX in Brooklyn.
Dana is currently
working with the artist Maya Lin on the What is Missing? memorial, a
multi-media memorial for the endangered species of the world. What is
Missing? has been exhibited at The California Academy of Sciences, The
Beijing Center for the Arts, the COP 15 United Nations Conference on
Climate Change, Storm King Art Center, The Clinton Global Initiative, and the Li Ka Shing Foundation. Currently the installation is traveling through China visiting 14 different cities.
Dana's installation work and projects have been shown at the Chelsea Art Museum,
The Boston Museum of Science, The London Festival of Architecture, The
DUMBO Art Under the Bridge Festival, The University Club NYC, Knoll International Paris, The Museum of Television and Radio NYC, The International Contemporary Furniture Fair NYC, Karkula Gallery NYC, The Cycling 74 Max/MSP/Jitter
Conference in San Francisco, The Malin + Goetz Store NYC, Felissimo Design House NYC, and the Center for Architecture NYC.
She is currently
working on a modern barn renovation in upstate New York. In the fall of 2010 she
will curate a monthly interactive film event called SUPERCINEMA. The debut screeing for SUPERCINEMA will be of Plein Soleil, director Rene Clement's nail-biting
European version of The Talented Mr. Ripley. The film will be accompanied by Italian treats and
refreshments, a slideshow on sociopathy, analysis of RIpley by an expert on Patricia Highmith, a
dance and music performance based on Ennio Morricone's theme, plus several other surprises.
